We have had a wonderful stay at Midwood Lodge and cottage and the weather was perfect for visiting the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne, the highlight of our trip here. The welcome trays were very thoughtful and my son was most surprised at the 40th card and present you had kindlt left him. The ccomodation was superb, a real home from home. We are looking forward to staying here again! Pamela Hall and Family - W. Yorkshire
31st October 2011
Our first time in Northumberland and what a welcome! Midwood Cottage is such a lovely base from which to explore the area. Three days was no where near enough time. Lindisfarne was just enough time in the car for Alex to sleep and a nail biting trek around the castle to ensure we beat the tide provided enough excitement for one day. Sunday lunch in the Red Lion was fantastic - and 18 month yr old friendly. Alnmouth is a beautiful town which we chanced upon when searching for Northumberland accomodation and I now can not imagine wanting to stay anywhere else again. Your attention to detail surpasses all expectations. This truly is a real gem of a cottage. Thank you so much. Jason, Michelle and Alexandra. Ripon
25th - 29th October
A beautiful stay made even more so by the unexpected brilliant weather. Blue skies, gentle breeze and sunshine all day.
This meant the planned car trips to old favourites like Lindisfarne were postponed. The Cottage is wonderful, comfortable, and all that is needed to fully rest and relax.
Thank you for the thoughtful welcome tray - the lemon cake was a great sustainer during our walks. Northumberland certainly never disappoints. Hazel and Gary Cheshire.
23rd - 31st October
Many Thanks for the welcome pack, a unique touch that was really appreciated. The Cottage is fantastic, equipped with everything we have needed for our short stay. The kids expecially enjoyed the lego and tree house. We've been really lucky with the weather and enjoyed the beach every day as well as Lindisfarne, Holy Island, and Alnwick Castle. Still more to see so we will be back. Thanks again. Rachelm Vicky, Tom and Ben
17th - 20th October

Another enjoyable break in this lovely cottage. We went on 3 short walks as featured in the 'Alnmouth on foot' booklet., which gave great views of the counrtyside and coast. The Coach Inn Lesbury and the Red Lion, Alnmouth provided excellent meals.
Thanks again for a warm welcome and relaxing time. Linda and Nigel.

5th-9th Sept 2011
What a wonderful place to stay - good home, good location, making exploring the Northumberland coastline easy.
We have had a great 4 days sight-seeing and found great places to eat. Can recommend the Red Lion in Alnmouth for food. Food is good and is within a few mins walk from the Lodge. Can also recommend the butches in Bamburgh for pork pies, cooked meats and home made puddings. Christine and Louise provides a lovely welcome pack on arrival.
We will certainly come back, also recommend Midwood Lodge to family and friends. Joanne Radcliffe
2-9th Sept 2011
We have enjoyed our stay here very much and I am pleased I chose Alnmouth against some of the other places I looked at. We have enjoyed walking to Warkworth and recommend lunch in the tearoom at the back of Carbosse patisserie which has very good food and is value for money. The walk from Craster to Dustanburgh also enjoyable. Trains to Newcastle at £10.50 and only takes 30 minutes. Bamburgh is the most impressive sight and beach is stunning. Alnwick Castle was good but very pricey at £22 for entry for an adult to castle and gardens. Lindisfarne is worth a visit and then Berwick where you can walk along the walls.
This is a truly beautiful coastline and I would definitely like to visit again. Welcome pack and cleanliness was appreciated.
Thank you. Lisa and Alan
2nd Sept 2011
We have had a lovely stay in this lovely cottage. Luckily we were here to enjoy Alnmouth fete, and managed to win two bottles of wine on the tombola! We did a great walk to Alnmouth taken from the 'Alnmouth on foot book'. It was especially beautiful by the viaduct, as the meadow flowers were in full bloom. We finished off at Barter Books and relaxed with a cup of coffee. The buses are frequent and stop at the top of the drive. Thank you, we will definitely recommend this cottage and Alnmouth.
Linda and Nigel Whickham
2nd Sept 2011
What a beautiful cottage and just perfect with everything we needed-we love it. The weather has been good so we were able to get out and about seeing the beautiful surrounding area, and in the evening, strolling the quiet beach of Alnmouth, before relaxing in this home from home. We will definitely see you again. Thank you Louise and Christine for everything. Jim and Joan.

An ideal spot to visit the Northumberland coastline. Cottage is very well equipped with a beautiful garden. Almouth beach is unbeatable for its beauty and tranquillity. The Gill family.

We have had a lovely holiday. Alnmouth is a very quaint village and has a super beach. The highlight of our holiday was a boat trip to the Farne Islands to see the fab puffins, seals and the Artic Terns - great fun! We enjoyed lunches at the Dandelion cafe in the village, also a great beer garden at the Red Lion. Still lots of trips we haven't had time to do so hope to return. The holiday cottage was great - thank you very much. Darren, Janet, George, James and Gran.

Dear Christine and Louise, thank you very much for the lovely treats on arrival. The boys described our stay as “awesome”. We spent the two days at Alnwick Castle and Gardens, which we all thoroughly enjoyed (cheap family tickets online valid for two days is worth it). The lodge is very homely and location is very handy (so close to the beach). We wish we had longer here. Best wishes, Soyab, Shabana, Hamzah, Safuan, Faysal and Bilal.
Friday 17th June 2011
Dear Louise, we were delighted with Midwood lodge all that we could have hoped for. Also we were most lucky with the weather! And the town of Alnmouth is lovely, in a beautiful setting. I hope we’ll have a chance to come back and pick up on the many things to do here. With best wishes, Mike and Margaret.
13th-17th June 2011
Our second visit and I think we’ve enjoyed this lovely cottage even more! The weather has been kind to us and we made the most of it with our usual favorites Alnwick Gardens, Sea houses boat trip with fish and chips and Barter books; plus some new finds café Tirreno in Alnwick and the new Dandelion café in the village. Red Lion is still strong for food but the Sun Inn seems to be a strong challenge! Highlight of our week was making it to the cross on church hill, thanks to a band of walks we found in the post office. Thank you for the fantastic welcome tray. I know we’ll be back again. Cathy and John
10th 13th June 2011
We have holidays in the north 2 to 3 times a year and have stayed in many holiday cottages but this one beats them all! The wine, cake, chocolate and flowers etc is such a lovely welcome and the cottage is perfect. As one of the guests earlier said we prefer and require more than just a place to sleep and seek out something with all the extras we are used to at home, and this is a real gem. The cottage is kited out so well with everything you need and more, and the bed is so comfortable. We have booked out 2 properties this year but will definitely come back for next year. Thanks so much and we will return for longer.
6th 10th June 2011
Thank you so much for the welcome package, we have really enjoyed our stay in this wonderful cottage. Being almost locals we have been coming to Alnmouth so much, the beach and harbor we feel is an area of natural beauty. The pristine cleanliness is outstanding and hopefully a return visit is a must. Patrick and Christine Jarrow

Thank you for a wonderful stay. The cottage was an ideal base for exploring the delights of Northumberland, it was beautiful and clean, comfortable and cosy and so well equipped. The welcome tray was very well received, especially the almond cake Chris wants the recipe! We have had a great week on our first family holiday enjoying many of the wonderful sights in this part of the country. Alnwick Gardens was favourite as was Bamburgh castle and beach and Dunstanburgh castle all highly recommended. We shall definitely be planning a return visit to see the rest of the North East’s delights and would love to come and stay at Midwoood Cottage again.

We’ve had a fantastic last minute long weekend break. The Lodge is gorgeous, we felt very at home. The log burner was a big hit after spending hours on the fabulous local beaches each day. Elliot Maddie and Oscar loved playing in the treehouse and were over the moon to discover swings around the corner.
We discovered a lovely little café/gift shop on the coastal route back from Bamburgh beach “Eleanors Byre” delicious locally baked cakes and yummy hot chocolate.
We would love to come back again, its been great in winter so we can imagine how lovely it must be in summer. Thank you again.

A beautiful and homely cottage, well equipped and full of personal touches like the welcome tray! Our stay here has been very relaxing and the cottage has been a great base for exploring the delights Northumberland has to offer. We particularly enjoyed the walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh catsle and whiling away many hours (and pounds) at Barter Books! We also enjoyed a magical lunch at the enchanting Tree-house restaurant at Alnwick Gardens.

3rd Jan 2011
This was our first visit to Northumberland as we joined several other families for a New Years Eve party in Lesbury. We knew it was going to be a long drive from St Albans and it was varying from 5 -7 hours. We also knew the weather could be cold and bleak and it was, although we were hugely relieved there was no further sbow to hamper our plans.
We were told of the beautiful beaches and the many castles we could visit and we did.On our first day we drove to Bamburgh Castle What a magnificent approach with the castle loomin gin the distance great beach also and the hot chocolate and sandwiches in the tearoom.
The next day went to lovely walk on the beach from the golf course near Embleton and ended up in the well known pub the Ship Inn where you could sit for hours if you wanted to.
The cottage itself has been wonderful. We found it to be very much home from home with everything here. Plenty of comfy seating, luxury items, loads of towels and plent of warm water. Wonderful stay and we will definitely recommend the area and cottage to friends and family well done and a big thank you from all of us.

Our welcome package was very spoiling thank you. I was a travel writer for 10 years and in all that time and since I have never come across a holiday rental that was so well equipped. (I agree with a previous guest: such a treat to find sharp knives!)
And so user friendly. We all had a wonderful week adventures every day. Then a return to our cosy haven hear: (sometimes almost too cosy: wow what heating!!). Our favourites included a) the walk back from delish lunch at FBI in Boulmer
b) the fabulous beach and sand dunes just south of Alnmouth
c) the castle at Warkworth (another great walk there). Not too impressed by Alnwick a great opportunity squandered.
Friezes and Friends Thank you for a fab week!
October 15th - 22nd
Firstly a big thank for the very warm welcome we received - a bottle of bubbly, choc, cake, flowers and even a card for our anniversary - how lovely! Having always had a preference for self- catering short breaks we have, over the last 25years stayed in many cottages/lodges/caravans B&B's - good bad and indifferent! We now prefer and require somewhere more than just a place to sleep and seek out the more luxurious rather than the 'make do' properties on offer. Midwood Cottage exceeded our expectations - what a little gem!! The style, comfort and pristine cleanliness is a credit to you both and the cottage has EVERTHING in it that anyone could want/need!
It has been a delight to return to after days of long walks and exploration followed by a couple of drinks in one of the local visitor friendly pubs - absolutely perfect! We will highly recommend it to friends and family.
This has been our first visit to Northumbria and we enjoyed every single day- a return visit is a definite yes!!
Philip and Pamla, Carlisle.
October 2nd - 9th
Nice welcome 'package' of scrummy cake, choc and flowers. Great location, ideal for visiting the various "faces" of Northumberland. Our first visit and we enjoyed the contrasts of endless beaches, rolling pastures and atmospheric moors inland. Superb walk Craster to Embleton Bay. Visit Howick Hall for wandering around informal gardens and excellent high tea.
Nice meals at The Sun and Beaches. Fitted in all the usual tourist attractions in and more, a superb week, love Northumberland and Northumbria. Tera and Jim The Cotswolds.

Lovely cottage, weather not great. Passed all too quickly. Barter Books and leisure centre good for a rainy day.
September 26th - 1st October
We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage - I have slept brilliantly, no mean feat! The wine and cakes etc was very thoughtful and much appreciated, also the fresh flowers. We particularly enjoyed Alnwick Gardens and a late lunch at the Tree House restaurant was very good. Another highlight is the great beach here, which we walked everyday at least once, come rain or shine. We also drove to Berwick about 30 mils and walked the walls and drove back via the coastal route. We will recommend this to our friends and hope to come back soon. Sharon (Norwich)
September 24th - 27th
This place is a gem! We loved the house, village, walks, beach and pubs. The Red Lion food was treat for all the family. The boys had fun in the treehouse and the conservatory became their lego room. Thanks for a great holiday. We will be back for longer!
The McFarlanes.
September 13th - 20th
Thank you for the unexpected goodies on arrival. The spiced lemon cake (home-made) was especially delicious. We have enjoyed our stay and would thoroughly recommend your cottage and Alnmouth to all. The Lodge is probably the best equipped, with everything you could possibly require in utensils that we have come across in all our travels, excellent. Sue and Andy (Kent)
August 13th - 20th

Cottage and Lodge are lovely with plenty of space for extended family. Very clean and lovely garden. Izzy loved the tree house. Surprise birthday party for our brother was a success and we all look forward to more visits to this area. Walkworth is beautiful.
Thanks to the local grocer for delivering shopping on our arrival and also the friendly mini bus driver who took us back and forth. Thanks from Sylvia, Peter, Chris, Sophie, Robbie, Izzy, Emma, Mark and Celia.
July 9th - 16th
We've had a lovely week in your gorgeous holiday cottage. We felt very much at home and really appreciated all the little thoughtful details that assured we had everything we needed. (e.g. the toddler step, which we had forgotten.) Thank you for the fabulous welcoming treats!! Joan is a wonderful baker!
Alnmouth is lovely, we had fun at the beach and enjoyed food at the Red Lion and Sun Inn. Top days were at Alnwick Castle and Garden (we lunched at the Tree House) and the sunny day at Bamburgh Beach. We would recommend Barter Books and Warkworth Castle. Our 3 year old Zoe had a great holiday too. She was delighted with the tree house and the big garden.
Thanks again and best of luck for the future. Jackie, Alex, Melissa and Zoe.
June/July 2010
Our first visit to this part of the country. Lovely house everything is superb throughout. Best beer and food to be found in the Red Lion. Barter Books in Alnwick is superb "as are the Bacon Butties". We had a great break and already thinking of coming back.
Chris and Sally from Lichfield, Staffs
June 19th 2010
What a romantic week we've had in this stylish comfortable cottage! One of us is an owl, the other a lark and both of us snore so the sofa bed came in handy!
Cafe 23's bacon stotties are the business and we ate extremely well at the Red Lion, particularly on the night.
No need for a car here, so convenient for Alnmouth station and the 518 bus took us everywhere we wanted to go. We had a lovely walk 15 miles on the coastal path to Warkworth. I really enjoyed our visit to the castle and hermitage. Alnwick's Barter Books is our favourite bookshop ever. Their station buffet does a nice cup of tea and delicious fruit and nut cake.
Also recommend the river walk to the Coach at Lesbury, watchin gthe river birds from Lover's Walk strolling up the beach towards Foxton.
Thanks so much for the cholcolate, biscuits and wine on arrival. We'll be back! Meryl and Richard. London E11
June 2010
What a wonderful cottage, Alnmouth is a wonderful village and the cottage is beautifully appointed. It is noce to see attention to detail with every care taken to ensure your guests have a memorable stay! The Sun Inn does excellent food. A top tip for fishermen is go down to the bridge end and follow the river round onto the long spit, fish at rising tide with mackeral and ragworm and enjoy some great flounder, spat with an odd bass and sea trout to the fly.! Again thanks for a friendly, lovely holiday.
Robin, Janene, Francesca and Amelia.
June 2010

A really lovely cottage. We have been so comfortable here and enjoyed the peace and quiet while being able to walk into the village. Its a great base for getting out and about. - May 2010
Thanks for a wonderful week, the weather was a pleasant surprise. The kids spent all of their time outside and when they weren’t in the garden we were all at the beach. Alnwick Castle was a great hit with the kids too. The cottage is lovely, you have thought of everything.
Paul Collins and family, West Dulwich.
- April 2010
What a fantastic cottage! We have had a great time. Everything was on our doorstep. We loved the fact that we could have our own kitchen and bathroom in the cottage end of the house, while our daughter and her family had the Lodge end. We are early risers and so it was great to leave the rest of the household undisturbed while we had our breakfast and popped out for newspapers. We will be back.
Jim and Joan Anderson, Co Durham
Thank you Louise and Christine for allowing us to be your first guests in your lovely cottage. The cottage has been tastefully decorated with a lovely warm interior and feels more like a home than a holiday let. Extremely well equipped with all you would need.
Alnmouth is a lovely stepping stone to all the other coastal delights and the deserted unspoilt stretches of beach between here and Berwick can never be tired of.
Bamburgh always spectacular, Alnwick Gardens and Castle definately worth a visit. Fantastic walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh.
Thank you for all your care and attention to detail, will be back.
